On 9 July 2014 IPC organized a public discussion “Social Protection and Status Rights” in Darda in cooperation with Roma's Cultural Artistic Association (RCAA) Darda.

Guests at the tribune were Nada Sinko, representative of the Croatian Employment Service (CES) Beli Manastir; Mandalena Solja, representative of the Police Department Osijek-Baranja County; Rudolf Mecevic, representative of the Police Station Beli Manastir and Branko Djurdjevic, president of the Council of the Roma National Minority (CRNM), community Darda.

50 citizens, members of Roma National Minority attended the public discussion, as well as the local media.

Nada Sinko alleged that almost all participants at the public discussion have been beneficiaries of the CES Beli Manastir. She presented all employment measures for Roma people conducted by the CES and educated them about tidings of the new “Law on Social Welfare”. With regard to the monthly check-in of unemployed to the CES she notified that if unemployed persons refuse an offered job or resign oneself, his/her right to social assistance will be recalled for a period of six months.

Another novelty refers to the networking of the Centers for the Social Welfare and Croatian Employment Services for the purpose of reviewing the employment status of CSW's beneficiaries  who are population of working age. One of stipulation to aquire social welfare assistance is registration to the CES as unemployed person. Social welfare assistance will be annulled if the CES removes that beneficiary from the unemployment registar. Moreover, she pointed out that only 30 Roma with completed elementary school have been registered at the CES Beli Manastir thus it is necessary to encourage all Roma to finish their education because only then they can become competitive on the labour market.

Rudolf Mecevic stressed that there are no Roma living on Darda's territory without regulated residence. All members of Roma national minority have regulated temporary or permanent residence, except family Radulovic whose members are IPC beneficiaries. However, he expressed his hopes that their situation will be resolved soon.

Mandalena Solja pointed out that Police Department in Osijek-Baranja County has very good co-operation with Roma representatives in that area and if some status issues occur, Police Department  is willing to work together so as to offer the best solutions and resolve these cases. She also emphasized all novelties that came into force in 2013 with the Foreigners Act, and gave examples of difficulties arising because of lack of valid passports.

Branko Djurdjevic mentioned all problems that Roma community has been facing  with such as low education, insufficient financial means for living, housing issues, etc. He stressed that all Roma people must realize how it is necessary to be engaged more actively in the social life of their communities and to take care of themselves so as to ensure better future for them and their children.

During the public discussion that lasted for two hours participants were very active, they asked numerous questions, commented their personal situations, and sought advices from the guests. They all stressed regrets because representatives of the Center for Social Welfare were not able to attend the public discussion.
