First meeting of the working group for drafting the Action Plan for Roma Inclusion in the Brod – Posavina County

On 26 October 2016, in the premises of the Great Hall of Brod – Posavina County the first meeting of the working group was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of local and regional governments, institutions, associations and the Council of the Roma national minority from the City and the County.

Moderator of the meeting, Professor Zima asked the members of the working group to briefly discuss the problems and difficulties they encounter in their work and propose possible feasible solutions which could be incorporated into future action plan. During the discussion, improvements that have been made for the Roma community in the last few years in the City of Slavonski Brod were mentioned and it was pointed out that great progress has been achieved to that effect. Members of the working group believe that it is necessary to encourage further cooperation of all stakeholders at the local and regional level in order to help the Roma population. In addition, all the participants, including Roma representatives, reported that the Roma community must take a proactive and responsible role in society in order to initiate positive changes.,   It relates particularly  to the problem of children's discontinuation of school education.

The first meeting for drafting the Action Plan was organized by ILC in collaboration with partners in the project - HILS from Osijek, Brod – Posavina County and the Network of Roma CSOs in Croatia through the "Legal inclusion and sustainable integration of Roma in Croatia", project which is financed by the European Union program IPA 2012 "Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to ensure the effective implementation of EU standards in the realization of human rights" and co – financed by the Office for CSOs, Government of Republic of Croatia.
